ACT Tutors: Sections, Optional Science, 2026-27 International Dates and a 10-Week Plan
ACT tutors help students practise the ACT sections, English, Math, Reading and the optional Science section, and learn to keep pace in a fast test. This page explains the format, the 2026-27 international test dates, a 10-week plan and how to request a tutor from Trinity Tutors.
A tutor cannot know the questions of a particular sitting and cannot promise a score or a place. What a tutor can do is teach the content, build speed and accuracy, and show where marks are being lost. The facts below were read on the ACT website on 15 October 2026, and each section links to the official page so you can check it again.

What Is the ACT?
The ACT is an admission test accepted by many universities in the United States and by some elsewhere. It is known for its pace: sections have many questions and little time per question.
Some Pakistani universities also accept it. NUST, for example, lists an ACT route for some programmes, as noted on our NUST entry test tutors page. Check the policy of each university you apply to.
Many students compare the ACT with the SAT before choosing one. Your target universities decide which tests are accepted.
No approved tutor is listed for this exact search right now. Send us a request and we will say honestly whether we can help; we do not promise a match.
ACT Syllabus: What Each Section Tests
The ACT tests school skills, not a fixed course. ACT lists the sections on its sections and structure page, and the science section is optional.
ACT English: skills to practise
English asks you to improve passages: grammar, punctuation, sentence structure and the clarity and organisation of writing.
- Punctuation, agreement and verb forms
- Sentence structure and combining sentences
- Choosing the clearest and most concise wording
- Order and purpose of ideas in a passage
ACT Math: skills to practise
Math draws on algebra, geometry, trigonometry and statistics. Keep a list of the formulas you need to recall.
- Algebra, functions and graphs
- Geometry and trigonometry
- Number, ratios and percentages
- Statistics and probability
ACT Reading and Science: skills to practise
Reading tests careful comprehension of passages. The optional Science section tests how you read data, tables and experiment descriptions, more than science facts.
- Finding main ideas and supporting details
- Reading graphs, tables and experiment set-ups
- Comparing viewpoints in two passages
ACT Format, Timing and Scoring
The table below is copied from the ACT page. The question numbers in brackets are the scored ones. Adding the section times, the three required sections take 125 minutes, and 165 minutes with Science.
ACT reports a composite score from 1 to 36. The optional writing essay, where offered, is scored separately from 2 to 12 and does not change the composite.
| Section | Questions (scored) | Minutes |
|---|---|---|
| English | 50 (40) | 35 |
| Mathematics | 45 (41) | 50 |
| Reading | 36 (27) | 40 |
| Science (optional) | 40 (34) | 40 |

What to Expect on ACT Test Day
ACT tests are held at approved test centres on the dates in the international schedule. Read your admission ticket carefully, since it names the centre, the reporting time and the identification you must bring.
The ACT moves quickly, with a short time for each question, so your plan for the day matters. Decide before you start how long you will give a hard question and when you will mark an answer and move on.
If you take the optional Science section, remember that it comes with its own time limit. Check with your target universities whether they require it, because a decision on the morning is too late.
Register by the regular deadline to avoid the late fee, and upload your photo by the date shown in the schedule.
- Read the admission ticket for the centre, time and ID.
- Decide your pacing rule for hard questions in advance.
- Know whether you will sit the optional Science section.
- Upload your photo before the deadline.
How ACT Tutors Help
A good tutor starts from a timed practice test and teaches from the results. Lessons usually combine these parts:
- A first lesson built on a timed practice test, to find the section that loses the most marks.
- Targeted teaching of grammar rules, Math topics or passage-reading methods.
- Pacing drills, because the ACT gives little time per question.
- Advice on whether to take the optional Science section for your target universities.
- A mistake log that sorts errors into content, method, careless and time.
A 10-Week ACT Study Plan
This is a sample plan to discuss with your tutor. Move the weeks to fit your test date.
Weeks 1 to 2: diagnose
Take a full timed test. Record how many questions you finished in each section and how many you guessed.
Weeks 3 to 6: build skills and pace
Work on one section at a time. Use short timed sets, for example 15 minutes of English passages, so that pace improves with skill.
Weeks 7 to 9: full tests
Sit a full test each week at the same time of day as your real session, then spend a day on review.
Week 10: polish and rest
Revise formulas and grammar rules, check the test-day rules and keep the last two days light.
Common Mistakes That Cost Marks in the ACT
These are patterns teachers describe often. Your tutor can tell which of them applies to you.
- Reading too slowly in Reading and running out of time before the last passage.
- Treating Science as a facts test, then spending time on content that is not needed.
- Practising untimed, so that pace falls apart on the day.
- Not choosing in advance whether to attempt the optional section.
- Missing the regular registration deadline.
How to Choose an ACT Tutor
Tutors on this site list the subjects and levels they teach, and our team approves a profile before it appears. What each tutor offers, where and at what fee differs, so read the profile and ask about a short trial lesson before you book.
Lessons can be online, or at your home in Islamabad, Rawalpindi and Lahore where a tutor is approved there. Our A Level online tutors page explains how online lessons work. Compare tutors with these questions:
- Do they teach the current ACT, including the optional Science section?
- How do they teach pacing, and how do they use timed practice?
- Can they cover all sections, or only Math or only English?
- Do they offer a short trial lesson, and what are the fee and schedule?
