How we review tutors

Every published profile has passed the steps below. We describe them plainly, including what we do not do, so you can decide how much to rely on a profile.

Before a profile is published

A tutor’s profile does not appear on the site until our team approves it.

  • The tutor creates an account and confirms their email address.
  • They complete an application: subjects, levels and exam boards, qualifications, experience, the places and ways they teach, and private details such as their legal name, phone number and an emergency contact. They confirm they are an adult.
  • They may upload certificates, a CV and, only if they choose, an identity document. These files are stored privately.
  • A member of our team reads the application. We may ask for changes, reject it with a reason, or approve it.

What “verified” means on a profile

Each qualification is shown either as “Verified by our team” or “Not yet verified”. We mark a qualification as verified only after a member of staff has looked at supporting evidence for it, for example a certificate. “Not yet verified” means we have not done that yet, not that the qualification is false.

What stays private

A profile never shows a tutor’s phone number, email address, home address or legal name if it differs from the name shown. Introductions go through our team. Private details and documents are visible only to the tutor and to staff who review applications, and each time staff open them the system records it.

After a profile is published

  • A significant change to a published profile, such as a new qualification or photograph, is reviewed before it appears.
  • Reviews are checked by our team before they are shown. Anyone can report a review or a profile; staff look at each report.
  • We can pause, hide or remove a profile if information turns out to be wrong or a serious complaint is upheld.

What we do not do

We do not currently run criminal-record or police checks, and a published profile is not a guarantee of quality or suitability. We recommend that parents speak to the tutor first, agree arrangements clearly, and for young students stay at home or nearby during home lessons or sit in on online lessons. If anything worries you, tell us straight away through the contact page.
