IELTS Tutors: Academic Format, Band Scores, Pakistan Booking and an 8-Week Plan
IELTS tutors help students practise the four IELTS skills, Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking, and learn what examiners reward in each. This page explains the Academic format, band scores, how booking works in Pakistan, an 8-week plan and how to request a tutor from Trinity Tutors.
A tutor cannot know the questions of a particular sitting and cannot promise a score or a place. What a tutor can do is teach the content, build speed and accuracy, and show where marks are being lost.
The facts below were read on the IELTS website and on the British Council Pakistan site on 15 October 2026, and each section links to the official page so you can check it again.

What Is IELTS?
IELTS is an English language test that universities, employers and immigration bodies use to see whether a person can study or work in English. It comes in two versions: Academic, for university study, and General Training.
This page covers IELTS Academic, which is the version most students take for university admission. Ask your university or the body that asks for the score which version it requires.
Each university sets its own required band, and sometimes a minimum in each skill, so check the entry requirements of every course before you book.
No approved tutor is listed for this exact search right now. Send us a request and we will say honestly whether we can help; we do not promise a match.
IELTS Syllabus: What Each Skill Tests
IELTS has no syllabus of topics. It tests the four skills described on the IELTS Academic format page, and preparation means practising each skill in the test's style.
IELTS Listening: skills to practise
You hear recordings and answer questions as you listen. Practise reading the questions in advance and following the speaker's meaning, not only single words.
- Predicting the type of answer before the recording
- Following changes of mind in a conversation
- Spelling answers correctly
IELTS Reading: skills to practise
Three sections of text, with 2,150 to 2,750 words in all, are read against the clock. Learn to skim for structure and scan for details.
- Matching headings, true/false/not given and sentence completion
- Reading for the writer's opinion
- Keeping to about 20 minutes per section
IELTS Writing and Speaking
Writing has two tasks: a description of a graph, table, chart or diagram, and an essay. Speaking is a face-to-face interview in three parts. Both are marked on set criteria, so feedback matters.
- Task 1: at least 150 words, about 20 minutes
- Task 2: at least 250 words, about 40 minutes, and it counts twice as much
- Speaking: introduction, a long turn of about two minutes, and a discussion
IELTS Academic Format, Timing and Band Scores
The table below is taken from the IELTS format in detail page. Adding the stated parts, the test takes about 2 hours 50 minutes, with Speaking sometimes taken on a different day.
Results are given as band scores, in whole or half bands. The Listening and Reading bands come from the number of correct answers. Writing and Speaking are assessed on four criteria each.
| Section | Time | Content |
|---|---|---|
| Listening | About 30 minutes plus 10 to transfer answers | 4 parts, 40 questions |
| Reading | 60 minutes | 3 sections, 40 questions |
| Writing | 60 minutes | Task 1 (at least 150 words) and Task 2 (at least 250 words) |
| Speaking | 11 to 14 minutes | Face-to-face interview in 3 parts |
IELTS Test Dates and Booking in Pakistan
IELTS has no single national calendar. Dates are set by each test centre, so the table explains what the official pages say, read on 15 October 2026. Choose the centre and date on the booking site of the organiser you use.
The British Council Pakistan page says IELTS on computer became available in Pakistan on 9 March 2025, and that the paper and computer tests have the same content and structure.
| Question | What the page says |
|---|---|
| Is the test the same on paper and computer? | Yes, the same content and structure |
| What is done on a computer? | Listening, Reading and Writing; Speaking stays face-to-face with an examiner |
| When do computer results arrive? | In 1 to 5 days |
| What extras does the computer test offer? | One skill retake and enquiry on results |
| Where are the dates? | On the booking site of the organiser and the centre you choose |
What to Expect on IELTS Test Day
Bring the identification you used when you booked, since the centre will check it. Arrive early. On a computer-delivered test, Listening, Reading and Writing are done on a computer, and Speaking is a face-to-face interview with an examiner.
In Listening, you hear each recording once, so read the questions in the time you are given. In Reading, move on when a question stalls, because every question is worth the same.
In Writing, watch the clock: Task 2 counts twice as much as Task 1, so give it the longer time. In Speaking, answer the question asked, and extend your answers with reasons and examples.
Speaking may be held on a different day from the other three parts, so read your booking confirmation carefully.
- Bring the same ID that you booked with.
- Read Listening questions before the recording starts.
- Give Task 2 about 40 minutes.
- Check the date and time of your Speaking test.
How IELTS Tutors Help
Good IELTS tutors start from a diagnostic test and works on the skill that lowers your band. Lessons usually combine these parts:
- A first lesson with a short test in each skill, to find the weakest one.
- Writing feedback against the four marking criteria, with a corrected model.
- Speaking practice with a timer and spoken feedback on fluency and vocabulary.
- Listening and Reading techniques, including time per section.
- A mistake log that sorts errors into vocabulary, grammar, method and time.
An 8-Week IELTS Study Plan
This is a sample plan to discuss with your tutor. Fit it to your booked date and your target band.
Weeks 1 to 2: diagnose and learn the tasks
Take a full test, then learn each task type. Start a vocabulary notebook organised by topic, such as education, environment and technology.
Weeks 3 to 5: build each skill
Write one Task 2 essay and one Task 1 report per week for feedback. Record yourself answering Speaking questions and listen back.
Weeks 6 to 7: timed practice
Do full Listening, Reading and Writing sessions in one sitting. Add a mock Speaking interview.
Week 8: polish and rest
Revise your weakest task types, check ID and centre details, and keep the last two days light.
Common Mistakes That Cost Marks in IELTS
These are patterns that IELTS tutors describe often. Your tutor can tell which of them applies to you.
- Writing under the minimum word count in Task 1 or Task 2.
- Spending equal time on both writing tasks, although Task 2 counts twice.
- Memorising long speaking answers that do not fit the question.
- Missing answer-transfer time and spelling errors in Listening.
- Booking before checking which band each university requires.
How to Choose an IELTS Tutor
Tutors on this site list the subjects and levels they teach, and our team approves a profile before it appears. What each tutor offers, where and at what fee differs, so read the profile and ask about a short trial lesson before you book.
Lessons can be online, or at your home in Islamabad, Rawalpindi and Lahore where a tutor is approved there. Our A Level online tutors page explains how online lessons work. Compare tutors with these questions:
- Do they teach IELTS Academic or General Training, whichever you need?
- Can they give detailed written feedback on Writing and spoken feedback on Speaking?
- How do they use timed practice and mock tests?
- Do they offer a short trial lesson, and what are the fee and schedule?
