LNAT Tutors: Format, Essay Practice, 2026-27 Dates and an 8-Week Plan
LNAT tutors help law applicants practise the two parts of the National Admissions Test for Law: a multiple-choice section on argumentative passages and a timed essay. This page explains the format, the 2026-27 deadlines, an 8-week plan and how to request a tutor from Trinity Tutors.
A tutor cannot know the questions of a particular sitting and cannot promise a score or a place. What a tutor can do is teach the content, build speed and accuracy, and show where marks are being lost. The facts below were read on the LNAT website on 15 October 2026, and each section links to the official page so you can check it again.

What Is the LNAT?
Universities use the LNAT to select applicants for undergraduate law courses, alongside the UCAS application and academic qualifications. The LNAT site describes it as a test of aptitude rather than educational achievement.
It does not test legal knowledge. You need no law background, so preparation is about reading closely, reasoning clearly and writing an argument.
The LNAT Consortium manages the content, and Pearson VUE administers the test. Universities see your results before you do.
No approved tutor is listed for this exact search right now. Send us a request and we will say honestly whether we can help; we do not promise a match.
LNAT Syllabus: What Each Section Tests
There is no content to memorise. Section A is a test of reading comprehension, and Section B is an essay. The skills below are the ones to practise.
LNAT Section A: multiple-choice reading
You read argumentative passages and answer questions about what is claimed, how it is supported and what follows from it. The computer marks this section out of 42, and that mark is your LNAT score.
- Finding the conclusion and the reasons for it
- Spotting assumptions and weak steps in an argument
- Telling what a writer says from what the reader infers
- Working steadily through 3 or 4 questions per passage
LNAT Section B: the essay
You write one essay from a choice of three titles. Test centres do not mark it. Universities receive the essay with your score and use it to see how you build an argument and reach a conclusion.
- Planning in a few minutes before you write
- Stating a clear position and supporting it with reasons
- Considering the strongest opposing view
- Closing with a conclusion that follows from the argument
Wider reading that helps
Reading serious comment and essays on public issues, and summarising each argument in two lines, builds the habits the test rewards.
LNAT Format and Timing
The LNAT test format page gives the structure below, read on 15 October 2026. The whole test takes two and a quarter hours.
- Section A is the only part that gives the LNAT score, out of 42.
- The essay goes to the universities you applied to.
- You can sit the test once per cycle, and results cannot be carried over to the next year.
| Part | Time | Content |
|---|---|---|
| Section A | 95 minutes | 42 multiple-choice questions on 12 argumentative passages |
| Section B | 40 minutes | One essay chosen from three questions |
| Total | 135 minutes | About two and a quarter hours |
LNAT 2026-27 Dates and Deadlines
LNAT lists these dates for entry in 2027 on its dates and deadlines page, read on 15 October 2026. Deadlines depend on the university, so check yours. LNAT adds that it is your responsibility to check with your universities for changes.
Do not sit the test before the 2026 summer holiday, because the result will not count for this cycle. Timing advice is on the when to take the LNAT page.
| Group | Registration and booking | Sit the LNAT by |
|---|---|---|
| All applicants | Registration opens 1 August 2026 | Testing begins 1 September 2026 |
| Oxford and Cambridge | 1 August to 15 September 2026 | 15 October 2026 |
| King's College London, LSE and UCL | No separate booking deadline listed | 31 December 2026 |
| Most other LNAT universities | Book by 20 January 2027 | 25 January 2027 |
| Bristol and Durham | Book by 13 January 2027 | 13 January 2027 |
| Late applications (usually international) | Book by 25 July 2027 | 31 July 2027, and some universities may not accept results this late |
What to Expect on LNAT Test Day
The LNAT is a computer-based test, administered by Pearson VUE. You book a slot and, after you pay, sit it at a test centre or in the way the LNAT site describes for your location. Read the registration pages early, because payment is required when you book.
Section A comes first, with its 95 minutes for 12 passages, so you have roughly eight minutes per passage. Aim to read each passage once, with attention, and then answer.
In the essay, plan for a few minutes, then write your argument in clear paragraphs and keep a minute or two to read it through. A short, well-argued essay is better than a long one that wanders.
Your essay and score go to your universities, so write for a reader who wants to see you reason.
- Book early and read the registration rules.
- Give each passage about eight minutes.
- Plan the essay before you write.
- Read the essay through before time ends.
How LNAT Tutors Help
Good LNAT tutors work on reasoning and writing, not on facts. Lessons usually combine these parts:
- A first lesson with a Section A passage set and a short essay, to see where you stand.
- Teaching of how to break an argument into claim, reasons and assumptions.
- Timed Section A practice at 95 minutes, to build pace across 12 passages.
- Essay planning and feedback on structure, balance and clarity.
- A mistake log that sorts errors into reading, logic, careless and time.
An 8-Week LNAT Study Plan
This is a sample plan to discuss with your tutor. Fit it to your booked date and your university's deadline.
Weeks 1 to 2: learn the format
Read two or three passages a day and summarise each argument. Write one untimed essay and ask your tutor for feedback.
Weeks 3 to 5: build reasoning and pace
Practise sets of three passages with a clock. After each set, explain in writing why the right answer is right.
Weeks 6 to 7: full practice
Do a full test in one sitting: 95 minutes for Section A, then 40 minutes for an essay.
Week 8: polish and rest
Repeat only weak question types, plan three essay outlines for different topics, and keep the last two days light.
Common Mistakes That Cost Marks in the LNAT
These are patterns that LNAT tutors describe often. Your tutor can tell which of them applies to you.
- Using outside knowledge to answer a question that the passage settles.
- Spending too long on early passages and rushing the last ones.
- Starting the essay without a plan, then drifting from the point.
- Writing one-sided essays that never meet the best opposing view.
- Missing the booking deadline for your university.
How to Choose an LNAT Tutor
Tutors on this site list the subjects and levels they teach, and our team approves a profile before it appears. What each tutor offers, where and at what fee differs, so read the profile and ask about a short trial lesson before you book.
Lessons can be online, or at your home in Islamabad, Rawalpindi and Lahore where a tutor is approved there. Our A Level online tutors page explains how online lessons work. Compare tutors with these questions:
- Do they teach both Section A and the essay, and can they give written feedback?
- How do they teach argument analysis, and how do they use timed practice?
- Do they know the dates and rules of the universities you are applying to?
- Do they offer a short trial lesson, and what are the fee and schedule?
